My Name is Naomi Royer, grade 6/7 teacher at Waterloo Elementary. I truly believe that this is a great workshop geared towards creative and intuitive learning, where the students can really explore their own personal boundaries with a structured, yet FUN, set of rules. They learn so many different technical techniques that can be very useful for future projects. I have seen my students become so engrossed and focused during this workshop and I am so proud of their progress and accomplishments! What a great experience for them to have!! I really enjoyed being able to make our own scripts, and the two whole days devoted to only this... Us having fun working in the category that we chose as our first choice, last week.

Well, there's not much to improve, but it would've been better if we could have had more time within our days.
The most challenging thing about our project would have to be.......trying to get all the filming and editing done in the short time of two days.
I learned how to work better in groups, and to share ideas, and most importantly: how to use i Movie. Last but not least I got to have fun... but already knew how to...!!!

It's too bad we had a snowstorm on Monday so we missed 3 days of school and we ended up having only 2 days to do the whole thing. Other than that we made it in time and it turned out great. It was really fun and I learned a lot about imovie and all kinds of ilife stuff.

It was very fun!! I was in the Ilife group and it was so amazing!! I learned how to use technology that I did not know how to use!! I think it is an awesome idea, to do this! The robotics and and the animation looked as fun as Ilife but I really liked what we did!!

Heyy my name s Freederique and my nivk name is Docter.F and I really love that, its a lot of fuuuuuun. Now we learnd how to make videos on iMovie and we went outside and made videos about the envirment and how we can save the world and wedid that cause enventualy we dont really want to live in our own garbag in th futer !! A Zombie Movie featuring hip hop dancers, a very cool principal, and a bear-squirrel! i found building the lego robot was fairly easy and the programing was very awesome but stressful. Trying to program the robot to stay in the box wasn't as easy as i thought.

ReplyDeleteI would like to thank you again for providing an excellent workshop for my students, what an opportunity!! The kids really looked up to you and enjoyed their projects. They especially enjoyed using the technologies that we do not have in the school. I hope that you'll be able to return to St. Francis soon. Many teachers were asking questions and look forward to viewing the final products. I would suggest involving the teachers more in the planning process before you arrive. There was a lot to do over two days. Now that I know what to expect, next time, I would have the groups created earlier and the brainstorming started. This will ensure a better link with the curriculum I think. The students could of also had more time to create their props and materials in art class prior to your visit. Your energy is outstanding and I understand that perhaps you would like to lead the entire workshop. Why not Skype a few conversations, let the kids ask questions, brainstorm, and plan a bit before you arrive. This interaction would keep your connection with the kids and at the same time, let them be better prepared. I especially appreciated that students were allowed to choose a topic from anytime in the year. Every student was driving their learning this week and totally engaged. This was PD for me also. I have worked with iMovie before but not claymation or robotics. I feel confident that I can integrate these into my teaching methods next year. Thank again! Mandy - St. Francis

I would like to thank Dale, Chris, Thierry and Dallas for the wonderful opportunity given to my students this year. The learning that took place during the last two days was phenomenal! Getting to watch my students, all of them, fully engaged, cooperating and working with technology that I need training with, was great! I really got to see a different side to my students. Some children who are normally shy and reserved took on a lead in animation and projected their voices. Others who have trouble staying organized decided to be the organizer, walking around with ipads taking notes and organizing his classmates. The students work well with each other, being in groups with other students who are not necessarily their best friends. They took the project to heart, brainstormed ideas and solutions. Lots of learning was done, not just with the wide variety of technology used, but socially as well. Linking their project to issues that the students face on a daily basis was a great idea. Thanks again for the great opportunity.

ReplyDeleteI loved the Lego Mindstorm. Building the robot was really fun but then the trickey part came. We had to program the robot to do all sorts of things like make it go around a carpet. Then we had to program it to make it follow a a black line. It was really fun and I hope we can do it again.
Hi I'm Thomas and I'm in grade 6 at P.E.E.S. I loved the 2 day workshop, robotics was really awesome. But it was really annoying because the computers kept freezing and sometimes you would need to start over, and I found programing very hard. But it was successful and I had fun.

My name is Krystele Fontaine. I am in grade 6. My school is Farnham Elementary school. What I liked the most is that we could use a camera and be in a movie. What was really challenging is that our teacher wasn't there for one day.Things could of been easier if we had our teacher for 2 full days. i learned a lot of things during the 2 days. I learned to work a little bit more as a team. I learned to use imovie. It was funny and i liked it!!!

Hi, my name is Audrey St-Pierre and I am in grade 6. I am from Farnham Elementary School. I was in the animation group and I really loved it. It was fun to play with clay and with the Ipad. Seeing other claymotion looked really easy but when it was my turn to do it, it was more hard then I thought. I think that the little red ball was really fun because we were all anxious to see if we would get a shock. I learned that for one little second of the movie, it took 6 pictures and sometimes more. I think that the most challenging thing was to make the person stand up.

ReplyDeleteI liked to make a movie it was fun but I learned that sometimes it is hard to work in group. It was also hard because we were filming scenes over. On the first day of the inventors workshop it was fun when we made bloopers but we didn't have time to put them on the movie but it was still fun to do them with my friends. When we presented the movie to the school we were laughing and one of my friends that was in the movie with me it was fun. I would have liked to put the bloopers on the movie.
I am Ashton and I was in the robotics group. I am in 5th grade and I am English I am at the school Farnham elementary.I found programing really hard I got really frustrated and it made me mad but that all changed when i went back to school and was having lots of fun there I am real happy you came to our school. Then we made a good thing with the robotics group. p.s. please come back next year.

ReplyDeleteI really liked the workshop I learned allot and went through more challenges I learned how to program a robot. It was really fun and I hope you can come again for other kids. My favorite part was programing the robot. At first I did not know what was a color sensor but now I do. I really liked the laptops they were pretty fast to me.

ReplyDeleteI had a great 2 days with you guys! I didn't like it when some of my clay people kept falling down but we fixed it. We putted some clay to keep in up.
What I like is that we had fun making the set and the people. What could be better is that we should had more time to make the movie. The most had thing was that we needed to move the people just a little. I learned how to do clay mation.

ReplyDeleteI was in the group of imovie with Mr.Glasses we did a fashion show!
The most challenging thing about imovie was to assemble the videos at the end because we had to edit it at the same time of changing it and twisting it a little but still it was so fun.
The most fun thing about making and doing a fashion show is filming because its fun and sometimes you laugh in the middle of a filming time.
What we should have done is that we should have done bloopers cause they are very funny but we didn't have enough time to do some our whole group was sad because we all said that it is the best part.
Maybe we can show the bloopers we made to our class from the ipads at school because I really want my class and maybe the whole school to see our funny bloopers.
One of the funny blooper is the one where angelica starts her line and we film but the bell rings and she does her funny face!!!

It sucks that were not going to be here anymore so we can't do any of this stuff again next year. Doing claymation with Dr.D was fun. We got to keep the stuff we made after we were done it was fun.

My name is Angelica from Farnham Elementary. I am in grade 6. I was in the iMovie group. Sometimes it was difficult because there was some calming to do sometimes or having to take walks or even alone for awhile.
ReplyDeleteBut i did like it when we were trying to do blupers but our expert did not want us to do any so we asked some other people what they think of them most of them said they loved them and one said they did not like them not counting our expert but we did not have time:(
I can't believe how hard it was to make a movie and get along but it was so funny at the end.
It was funny when we were filming and the bell rang.

Hi ,My name is Chloe Hebert and i I'm in grade five and my school is Farnham Elementary.I was in clay mation with Dr.D and the girl and it was challenge for me when come to do some clay i said i will not be good and my people would be ugly and it would not be stand and when i started with clay when there was water it was be hot and it give me some shivering but after it was Ok and it was fun to do and funny .Dr.D was a good teacher and funny and he got a good voice and he was a strong people and he wanted us to work hard and go fast and are people would be good all the time and he was cool .bye bye thank really thank you bye bye

From Heroes' Memorial
The Robotics was very fun experience. The funnest and easiest part was building the robot the hardest was programming it to make it move work and talk. I really liked the robots and the ipads they work really good.

ReplyDeleteHi my name is Brianna, im in grade 6 at Heroes' Memorial. I was in Imovie with Chris, I had alot of fun. The easiest part was acting what we had on the script in front of the camera. The hardest part was writing the scripts. We used an Ipad, a laptop, a video camera, a camera and a miniature camera. I had lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteI am a SET working at Heroes Memorial.This workshop was a great experience for the children. They got to use many different technologies and had fun while learning. I also learned how to use many of the different technologies shown to the children. It was a fantastic day taught by energetic and enthusiastic people. Great job!
